Synthetic & Treated Gem ID

E301 Synthetic and Treated Gem Identification (4 weeks at US$ 1,625)

This course takes an in-depth look at the latest in synthetic and treated stones and their manufacturing processes. Extensive class time is devoted to studying gem inclusions that allow separation of natural from synthetic and treated stones.

A large collection of 1000 rough and cut stones offer students a rare opportunity to examine all the major synthetic and treated gem varieties found in the market. Practical experience in the gem industry would help in the understanding of the course material.

*Pre-requisite E102 Gem Identification, or equivalent; or prior gemological knowledge.

(3 hrs. theory & practice Monday through Friday)

"Graduated FGA from IGR (Institute de Gemologie de Madacascar).   The Teachers suggested me to come to AIGS for the quality of their studies.  They also know Dr. Laurent Massi and I have been introduced to him. I have learnt a lot during this month not only about stones but also how the market goes in Bangkok.   For Foreigners, this is a very interesting subject.  I must congratulate you for the quality and the variety of  your stones.  One month for this subject and half part time is to me very short.   I would have liked to have more practical time with a teacher.  Jayesh had been an excellent teacher, he transmitted us not only the main topics and subject we had to know but also the latest treatments; how the market goes in Thailand and all over the world. This course is to be recommended for all gemologists.   5 weeks for this course should be a good period. I would like also to say that the kindness of registration had been very helpful for people like us, foreigners, and sometimes lost in the beginning. So thank you to them".

"AIGS is the only institute in the world that offers a separate course for synthetic and treated gem identification and the course is worthy indeed. The practicals are the best part of the course as you get to see many specimens and the teacher was very knowledgeable. I thoroughly enjoyed learning at AIGS and look forward to continue my association with this institute. I would also like to encourage all those wanting to join this course to have no second thoughts about it.  AIGS is the place to study in."
